Techcross believes it has become the first company in the ballast water management system (BWMS) sector to secure Cyber Resilience Certification from the Korean Register (KR).

Announced on 2 December 2024, this milestone follows Techcross’s earlier achievement of cyber security certification from Lloyd’s Register (LR) in 2022.

The KR certification evaluates compliance with the cyber resilience requirements outlined in the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) UR E27 regulations. These standards, designed to enhance the cyber security of onboard systems and equipment, became mandatory for new ship constructions as of July 2024.

“Achieving this certification demonstrates our international leadership in cyber security and recovery capabilities,” the company stated.

As digital systems become integral to ship operations, vulnerabilities to cyber threats have grown. In response, IACS introduced the UR E26 and UR E27 frameworks to establish robust defences.

Techcross has aligned its operations with these standards, incorporating cyber resilience into its flagship products, ECS and HYCHLOR BWMS, as well as its Techcross Smart Platform.

The Techcross Smart Platform, included in the certification, facilitates real-time data exchange and early diagnostics, offering operators actionable insights for maintaining equipment reliability. A customer highlighted the platform’s benefits, remarking, “The ability to use safe and reliable solutions tailored to industry needs is the greatest advantage.”

Techcross noted this achievement is not merely regulatory compliance but part of a broader effort to integrate smart technologies that improve operational efficiency and client satisfaction.

While the company’s initiatives have received positive feedback, the overarching goal remains to ensure the safety and functionality of maritime systems amid evolving cyber challenges.

KR’s certification underscores the increasing importance of cyber resilience in the maritime sector, setting a precedent for others in the BWMS industry to follow.

As digital transformation continues to reshape shipping, ensuring cyber security will remain a pivotal element in operational strategies.
